Fly tying at Pop's Cabin

Ryder's First Fly

It looks good.

It's a Black Woolly Bugger, size 8

Not bad, with just a little help from Pops.

Fish Photos (as promised)

Look Mom, a fish necklace!

Ryder and I decided to give the Quail a rest and harass the trout today.  We started at Hamilton Branch where it enters the lake but we couldn't buy a fish.  After Ryder ate both of our snacks we decided climb out of that hole and go upstream to Deadman's hole, which payed off with two limits of rainbows.  Ryder's mom called just after we landed the first fish and he was laughing so hard trying to pickup a flopping fish in the grass that he couldn't have a coherent conversation.  We had four of them for dinner, along with taters, string beans and bread.  Life is tough at Pop's cabin.

Look at the bend in that rod.

Looks like dinner to me.

Ryder's First Quail Hunt

Check out the new bow, camo shirt and pants.  Ryder is officially a hunter just like his Pops and has a quail to prove it all.  He didn't want to wear a coat this morning because he wanted to make sure everyone could see his new camo.  Hunting was pretty slow but Sam was able to flush one covey and that was enough to provide meat for dinner tonight.  Nothing like Quail, potatoes, gravy and salad for dinner after a full day of chasing animals in the woods.

We need a good nights sleep so we can catch a few trout for tomorrows nights dinner.  Hamilton Branch has been producing a few good rainbows and with the new line I just put on Ryder's pole he is ready to land a big one.  Hopefully we will have some good photos to post tomorrow night.  Stay tuned.
